A new series of photographs created during pandemic.
The photographs observe and record the people who gather every night to enjoy fireworks on the riverbed near Asakai's home. Fireworks are not only a summer tradition in Japan, but also have a history of being set off for the purpose of repose or to dispel plague. The sight of people wearing masks and enjoying fireworks in the midst of the new way of life in the Covid-19 disaster makes us more aware of the interaction and connection between people, as if they are performing a ritual or trying to regain their lost daily lives.
